q: how was this built?
a: the site was built in flash mx. yes, i still use flash mx. i have a license for mx 2004 professional, but i'm a stick-in-the-mud and far too comfortable to go changing my ways now. this is the fourth all-flash version of indextwo, the first one being published in october 2003.
q: how does the blog work?
a: the blog is (and always has been) powered by blogger. i spent a little while tweaking the blogger template, but it's essentially just a raw bulk of text; flash adds all the fanciful tweaks that make it so pretty.
q: what about that fancy comments box?
a: the server-side scripting was done with php and mysql, with me bastardizing a script developed by my good friend and boy genius jon. he also fixed all the php that i broke.
q: what's the deal with the music player?
a: the 'jukebox' is a variation on something i've included in a whole bunch of sites i've developed. it loads up an xml playlist, picks a track at random and streams it. included in the playlist is a link to where you can purchase an album by the artist currently playing.
q: what's the point of that stupid little weather doodad?
a: no point. i did it because i could. and i was bored. it pulls in an xml feed of my local weather from wunderground.com and shows the appropriate little icon, most of which are based on characters from the font cd-icons.
