allergic to everything
i have no idea what a regular person might feel when they first reluctantly crack open their sleep-encrusted eyes and take in the first laser-powered deathbeams of sunlight in the morning (this sentence may have given you some idea as to my whole take on the concept of waking), but for me, waking up on wednesday morning wasn't quite so much fun as usual.

blundering our of bed, stumbling somewhere in the vague direction of the doorway, i managed to blurt "i don't feel so good" to emily before collapsing in front of the toilet and vomiting quite violently for the next, oh, five hours or so.

'up' is a concept that so many seem to take for granted, but when it's gone - oh boy, do you miss it. for the past two and half days, i have had no idea which way 'up' is; it appears that i am suffering from 'benign paroxysmal positional vertigo'. this essentially translates into "if you move, you throw up", but without actually being ill - it's the very act of moving itself that throws me and my tummy right off.

of course, the timing couldn't have been any better with the start of our tour only two days away. right now, i can walk - albeit in a slow, loping gait one usually associates with a drunken tramp - but driving is utterly beyond me, and i dread to think what my drumming is like. if you see us, and i'm a bit shit, please go easy.

the terrorist keyword
oh, jesus christ. i haven't posted since the tragic events that took place in london, mainly because i have far too much work and far too little of interest going on to publish online.

so, is it too soon for me to start questioning the reports in the media? before they even knew how many explosions there had been, the media were loading their questions: "is this a failure of intelligence to anticipate a terrorist attack?", for example, and "is there any doubt that this is an al qaeda attack?"

and here we go. the fucking al qaeda. on the news just now, after all the bomb-making factories they've found, the four people identified as being suicide bombers, and one guy being held in cairo for questioning, scotland yard can find no link to al qaeda. "but," swaggers the news reader, "it is only a matter of time."

oh really? only a matter of time before we resurrect the ghost of the mythological terror-beast that haunts our world, you mean? the infamous al qaeda, responsible for every bombing to ever take place since 9/11? the same al qaeda formed in the 80s to fight the soviet occupation of afghanistan, and apparently the only organised terrorist 'network' in the world? fuck the ira, and the plo - it's al qaeda baby. who needs evidence? we've got media.

hello darkness, my old friend
since nine thirty this morning we've been watching the news coverage of what the prime minister has just stated as terrorist attacks in london. the latest update confirms seven explosions in and around central london, mostly on tube trains and at least one explosion that quite literally tore a double decker bus to shreds at tavestock square. emily's sister works in central london, and travelled up here last night because she had a dentist appointment this morning. thank god.

there is currently a rescue operation to try and get people out of kings cross station where people are trapped in a tunnel. at least 90 people have been injured at aldgate alone, and an estimated twenty people are dead. obviously stay glued to the news, which can provide more accurate and consistent updates than a blogger a hundred miles away.
